How to Clean Your LCD TV screen

!±8± How to Clean Your LCD TV screen

* Easily Scratched!

First we have to understand a little bit of background about LCD screens to know why we should be careful when cleaning. LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display; which has crystal molecules sandwiched under layers of polarized panels. These panels are usually made of "plastic-like" polymer materials, and like any plastics they can be easily scratched or gouged, even by just your fingernails! That's why cleaning LCDs requires special care while cleaning compared to the old glass CRT monitors!

* What You'll Need

- rubbing alcohol (aka isopropyl alcohol)

- distilled water (not tap water!)

- A soft cloth (lint-free)

* Steps

1. Dilute the rubbing alcohol into a mix with about 50% alcohol and the rest distilled water.

2. Pour this solution into a spray bottle. Old Windex bottles are good as they spray in a mist pattern with just the right amount to get good coverage on your screen. The spray bottles that squirt a single stream tend to drip solution all over the place.

3. Spray the mix onto a soft lint-free cloth. Old t-shirts and microfiber car wash cloths are both good choices. Large cloths are better since it helps to reduce the risk of leaving streaks on the screen from too much pressure.

4. Gently wipe the cloth on the screen in a circular consistent motion. Apply even pressure to the cloth and be careful not to push too hard, or scrape the screen with your fingernails!

* Suggestions

- Costly products that you buy at the "computer screen cleaning" aisle of your local computer store contain the same basic ingredients of alcohol and water! Some even contain other harmful chemicals such as ethylene glycol, which may be ok on older glass CRT monitors, but should NOT be used on LCD screens! Some of the extra chemicals can also be harmful to the environment and to your health.

- Be sure to use Mineral water! Not tap water; you don't want hard mineral spots on your screen.

- Don't use tissue paper; they will leave lint and spots of paper stuck to your monitor. Also they're too thin, risking damage from your fingernails poking through.

- Don't apply too much solution. If you do, just wipe it off with the cloth and use less.

- You can also use lint-free lens wipes from photography stores, but they're thinner so be careful about your fingernails poking through.

- For a cheap ready-made solution from the store, you can also use CD/DVD cleaner, It's already designed to be plastic-safe, and is a simple solution of about 50% isopropyl alcohol.

* Some Precautions

- Don't use Windex or other glass cleaners! These contain ammonia, which is ok for glass, but WILL hurt your LCD screen!

- Try not to use the really cheap paper towels, like the tough brown ones in public washrooms. They can scratch your screen.

- Be sure to shut down your computer and your monitor, then unplug from the wall. This reduces the risk of electric damage in case you spill some of the solution on components.

- Don't drink isopropyl alcohol! It's toxic!

- If you aren't sure, you can test a small corner of the screen first.

Follow the steps and suggestions above, and your trusty LCD monitor should give you years of clean, clear, trouble-free service.

How To Make Cappuccino In 3 Simple Steps!

!±8± How To Make Cappuccino In 3 Simple Steps!

Consider this the basic in the how to make cappuccino series. This article would highlight the steps to make cappuccino like the baristas you see in Starbucks and most coffee shops...

Before moving on to the 3 simple steps to make the cappuccino, do you know what is cappuccino? The key to understanding this, would be invaluable to learn how to make it. Knowing the components of a cappuccino enables you to visualize the procedures later.

Cappuccino is actually an espresso filled with 2 types of heated milk, i.e the steamed milk and the frothed milk. And, it is the frothed milk that gives cappuccino that classic look and it is also the "so difficult " frothing that lead world coffee bodies in using the froth to evaluate the skills of baristas.

The proportion of cappuccino is 1/3 espresso, 1/3 heated milk and 1/3 frothed milk. We would not touch on espresso in this article, as it warrants one entire article on how to get a good espresso, here we would highlight the other 2 components, the steamed and frothed milk, to better your learning in how to make cappuccino.

You would get steamed milk when the heat source (usually the steam wand) is injected into the milk, slightly below boiling point. As the injection of hot air is controlled to a minimal, there would not be any change in the milk volume except for a small amount of micro bubbles or froth.

To get more bubbles, i.e. to get frothed milk, place the steam wand at the surface of the milk, and this would creates more of the micro bubbles, remove the steam wand, when the froth has the look and feel of whipped cream.

Now, let's learn how to make cappuccino in 3 simple steps:

i. when using an espresso machine, while waiting for the espresso to brew, steam and froth the milk in a frothing pitcher. Once done, set it aside for approximately 30 seconds.

This is to allow the milk densities to separate. To speed up the process, you can try what Starbucks or most coffee shops' baristas are doing -by knocking the frothing pitcher on the table, this would separate the steam from the froth milk.

ii. Then, take a large spoon to keep the milk foam as you pour out the steam milk. As you pour the steam milk into a mug, do it slowly to prevent breaking the froth, and stop when you reaches 1/3 of the mug.

With the 1/3 steam milk done, spooned up the froth milk and put it on top of the steamed milk, this foamed milk should take up another 1/3 of the mug.

iii. For the last 1/3 of the mug, pour in the espresso down the middle of this foamy sculpture. And there you have it, a foamy cappuccino!

Not that complicated right? No need to ask how to make cappuccino like that Starbucks baristas anymore right? You can do it with 3 simple steps!:)

About the Chemex Coffee Maker

!±8± About the Chemex Coffee Maker

Created in 1941, the Chemex coffee maker was Peter Schumbohm's (1896-1962) most flourishing industrial design. He was influenced by the Bauhaus school, where form follows function, to which he applied his knowledge of physics and chemistry. The Chemex carafe is inspired by a temperature-resistant laboratory flask. The upper part of the flask holds the Chemex filter, thicker and heavier than conventional filters, that extends the extraction time of hot water (poured by hand) through the ground coffee. The fitted wood collar with leather tie add an elegant accent while making the flask straightforward to handle with hot coffee. An original Chemex carafe is on permanent exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).

Today, Chemex remains very accepted among coffee purists, who appreciate the hands-on control of its extraction process. As opposed to the electric drip coffee maker, the Chemex manual brewing method and thicker filter permit the grounds to "bloom" (just wet enough to saturate without floating in water) for optimal extraction. Make use of the following simple instructions for brewing delicious coffee with your Chemex:

1. Open the Chemex-Bonded Filter into a funnel. One side should have three layers. Set the cone in the top of your coffee maker with the thick portion toward the pouring spout.

2. With regular grind or automatic grind coffee only, put one rounded tablespoon (about 7 grams) of coffee per 5-oz cup into the filter cone. If you desire stronger coffee, use additional coffee; there is never any bitterness in coffee brewed by means of the Chemex coffee brewing method.

3. When the water is boiling, remove it from the range until it stops boiling vigorously. It should at this time be at about 200°F, a perfect brewing temperature. Add a small quantity of water over the coffee grounds, just adequate to wet them without floating. This is essential since it enables the grounds to "bloom," so the pleasing coffee elements can be released.

4. After this initial wetting merely pour additional water, soaking the grounds every time, but keeping the water level well below the top of the coffee maker. Once the preferred amount of coffee is brewed, dispose of the used up grounds by lifting the filter out of the coffee maker. And that's it. You are now ready to enjoy a perfect cup of coffee!

You also may use the Chemex carafe and filters for making tea. Observe the same directives for brewing coffee, but in place of coffee, measure in your favorite loose tea, one level teaspoon per cup.

Coffee Carafes for Automatic Drip Coffee Makers

!±8± Coffee Carafes for Automatic Drip Coffee Makers

Automatic drip coffee makers are the most common type of coffee maker found in homes. It has been around for many years and continues to be as popular today as it was when it was first introduced to the coffee world. There have been many advances in the features available on the automatic coffee maker including the different types of carafes that are available.

The original coffee pots or carafes that came with automatic drip coffeemakers were made of glass. These heavy duty glass pots were the receptacle for the coffee to drip into and had little more lid than a plastic covering with a hole for pouring and one for receiving the coffee from the coffee basket. The only means of keeping the coffee warm in these glass pots was and still is the warming plate on the unit.

These glass carafes serve their purpose. They catch the coffee and keep it warm while it is being served. However, the coffee has to remain on the warmer in order to stay warm and the coffee will become unsavory after being on the heat for any extended period of time. Additionally, the glass pot stains easily and can break. It is also not very practical for use as a serving carafe at a luncheon or breakfast unless there is an additional hot plate to set the carafe on while it is being served.

Today's coffeemaker can be purchased with thermal carafes that are attractive for serving and keeping the coffee hot. These thermal carafes can be taken off the hot plate and used to serve without fear of the coffee becoming cold quickly. Another advantage to the thermal carafe is that the coffee stains do not show and it doesn't break as easily as a glass carafe does.

Individuals who have an automatic drip maker with a glass carafe and would prefer to have a thermal carafe should visit the coffee maker's website and other coffee websites to see if they have a thermal model that will fit their coffee maker. Often automatic drip coffee maker carafes are interchangeable. This makes it possible to find a thermal carafe to replace an older glass model.

Thermal carafes come in a variety of styles and materials. Some are heavy, molded plastic material that is insulated while others are stainless steel with insulated interiors. Both make lovely serving pieces for breakfasts and lunches and both types keep coffee at a nice serving temperature linger than a glass carafe does.

Coffee carafes are another choice that consumers should consider when looking at makers. The carafe is the part that will be used when serving and should be able to keep the coffee warm and make an attractive presentation.
